Saskatchewan Soybean Trial
Double Diamond Alameda conducted a Soybean Variety Trial this season on Edgar Hammermeister’s farm across from their site. A tour was held yesterday and was well attended by local growers. Local reps from Bayer, Syngenta, Dekalb, Northstar, Brett Young, BASF, and Monsanto Bio Ag were also in attendance. Our own Kent McKay was the star of the tour with an interactive discussion about soybean agronomy. After the tour everyone enjoyed corn on the cob from the Double Diamond corn hill and cheeseburgers cooked by Darcy.

Tour Day was a Success
On August 8th we showcased our annual What’s Possible Demonstration Site tour at our Boissevain location. We had a turnout of 75 people and couldn’t have asked for a better day to take our customers through the site. This year the What’s Possible Site consists of 23 one acre strips of soybeans. The first 12 strips of the site being different agronomic practices with the same variety and the remaining 11 strips were all different varieties well suited for the southwest area. Please feel free to contact Jagger at the Boissevain location if you’re interested in viewing the site!

45th Annual Frobisher Threshermen's Reunion - Alameda, SK
Double Diamond-Alameda entered a "float" into the 45th Annual Frobisher Threshermen's Reunion on Sunday, Aug. 20/17. Located in the small town of Frobisher, SK., the reunion celebrates farming through the centuries with a full day of activities. Amoung many other things, activities included a tradeshow, blacksmith demos, an antique tractor show and threshing demos. We enjoyed being a part of the parade and a great day was had by all!

Cal Bell Retires After 800,000+ Acres
I had the pleasure of taking a few photos of Cal yesterday morning, and as I sat in the truck with Cal and Corie waiting for the sprayer to arrive, I got to glimpse into his time here at Double Diamond. Since starting 20 seasons ago, Cal has kept a running record of how many acres he has covered in the custom applicators. Just a few days before officially retiring, Cal hit 800,000 acres!!! As I heard Corie say yesterday "Likely only 2 people in North America have reached such a huge milestone, and likely only 1 of them recorded it". We will certainly miss Cal here, he has assured us he will stop by regularly and we sure hope he does. Enjoy your retirement Cal!
